Moto Race (Mareeba - 23/08/2009)

Paw Paw Picking (Mareeba - 19/08/2009)

What a lovely day for an outside job (and it is everyday sunshine for 2
weeks already).

Saturday 22 August 2009

We moved in!! (Mareeba - 13/08/2009)

We moved in a caravan as it is not so expensive and more comfortable than
the tent. We have three beds, a table, chairs, sink, microwave, boiler,
toaster, TV, electricity to charge our devices, etc...

Our Friend (Mareeba - 09/08/2009)

This caravan park is pet friendly.

Early morning @ work (Mareeba - 11/08/2009)

We have to get up at 5 to start to work at 6h30.
That's very hard but worth the great landscape we can see every morning!!!
About the work, finally, we are not harvesting coffee at all. The company
has other fruits: Banana, Papaya and Longan. Usually, We are picking Papaya
in the morning, then we pack them on the early afternoon and finish by
packing Longans (kind of lychees). We are happy with the atmosphere which is
very friendly, we have one 15min break in the morning, one 1/2h lunch break
and one 15min break on the afternoon. For more, the work is declared, so we
can count the days for asking our next visa.

City of promised work (Mareeba QLD - 08/08/2009)

We decided to continue our farm job search further inland and went for a day
trip to Mareeba, a known Rodeo City 60 km west of Cairns. In this area are
three coffee plantations and many other vegetables farms, where we left our
names and telephones numbers. The most promising stop, was at the Skybury
Coffee Plantation. A motivated waitress of the company owned restaurant
phoned directly the boss because she knew that he wanted to start the
harvest the following week. After many phone calls and emails to show our
interest, we got a positive answer with not a lot of information: I have
work for you. Come on Monday 10th August, 6h25 to the shed next to the
coffee centre. We wonder what awaits us...

Butterfly Sanctuary (Kuranda - 07/08/2009)

After visiting the Barron Falls, we got hungry and went for lunch.
From our table we could see signs for attractions and this one attracted our
attentions.

You go in a closed area where there are hundreds of butterflies
everywhere!!!

Weird insect (Kuranda - 07/08/2009)

Motorbike reparation (Palm Cove - 01/08/2009)

Diana has a disk locker that she puts on the disk (as required...).
Unfortunately, she, as much as me (but mine has a alarm that reminds me its
presence) forgot to take it off when going... That breaks the speedometer
cable... So we made a yellow line which goes from the locker to the handle
as a reminder. At the supermarket, this time, we forgot to put the reminder
and that happened again... The speedo cable was re-glued for the fourth time
now and it stays fixed and the speedo works properly.

Our new address in Far Northern Queensland (Palm Cove - 01/08/2009)

We spoke at Cairns with a French couple who did a big tour of New Zealand
and Australia by bike. And they told us about this cheap camping at Palm
Cove. We knew already about it and we went there, one week ago already, to
check availability: in front of the office, there was a sign "No Vacancy at
all" in front of the bell. So we did not dare to ask, it was clear. The
French guys told us that they dared ask and that there were places
anyway.... So we went back and rung the bell which was hidden by this sign
and got our nice cheap tent site.

Standby (Cairns - 31/07/2009)

I got my stand back and we start to look seriously for work... We do not
know what to do, stay or not stay: if we move too much, we'll never seek
seriously somewhere but there's nothing, we would like to move ... This
camping in North Cairns is too expensive anyway, we have to go somewhere
cheap.

Sunday 2 August 2009

Lookout over the dry forest (Mulligan Hway before Mont Carbine - 29/07/2009)

Not finished with gravel roads... (between Laura and Lakeland - 29/07/2009)

After the bush fire (Laura - 29/07/2009)

Few days before, there were bush fires around Laura.

Alarm clock (Laura QLD - 29/07/2009)

We were woken up by these parrots... They look nice but are very loud!

Sleep deserved (Laura QLD - 28/07/2009)

We did not ride a lot of km but we were wasted and it was late, we could not
go further... Tomorrow, we have a long 300km trip to reach Cairns (I have my
service the day after...)
